The idea for a small community based ballet studio that became The Dancer's Advantage began in 1981. It took many years to amass sufficient business, professional ballet-career knowledge, and funding to actually begin life. Our doors opened Sept 3, 2002 as an LLC and we have enjoyed the warm support of the Park Hill community from the first day. Our parents often say how wonderful it is to be able to walk their child down the block and into their ballet class. I love to see smiles and hear laughter from each of our dancers as they learn the craft of technique and the art of ballet. Such sights and sounds make feel proud and rewarded. As the owner of The Dancer's Advantage, I am great full for what I have in Park Hill. My wish is that all our students have a fun, healthy and memorable experience that fosters a lifelong love and support for the art of ballet.
A note from Brian on why I do this.
In 1979 as a young student-dancer, I was directed by my teachers to pass on the rare gift of professional ballet preparation to other young dancers. Near the end of my career, Betty Farrally (Founder of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, ill from a brain tumour) http://www.rwb.org/company/about/history.html held my hand and made him promise to give back the gift of dance that she gave me. "Be honest with your dancers. Give them what you know works in the real world of professional ballet. Don't water it down, don't be kitchie, be real and have fun."
That is why I founded The Dancer's Advantage, and why I teach only what works in the real world of professional ballet.
